THE CHALLENGE
Private Label Project
In my spring semester of junior year, I worked on a project where I was to choose a retailer and then select an own brand company from that retailer. I selected Best Buy and its brand, Insignia. I was challenged to find a gap in the market and create an on-brand product that Best Buy could quickly sell. I immersed myself in Insignias brand language and developed a mid-range mouse that is a hybrid between an office mouse and a gaming mouse.

Office VS Gaming
When looking to buy a new mouse, you can only find 2 similar aesthetics: an RGB light super bright gaming mouse or a plain and simple boring looking office mouse. For this project, I created a hybrid between the two.
Market Research

Form Exploration

For this project, my professor assigned me to find a gap in the market for our chosen brand. I found that Insignia doesn't offer any higher performing mice, as they strictly offer simple and lower quality ones. I then began to research what was currently on the market. I noticed that there is only gaming mice with tons of RBB lights and sharp edges, or your generic and plain office mouse. I proposed that I would create a mid-tier quality mouse, that is a hybrid between a gaming mouse and an office mouse. I found that if Insignia were to add a higher performing mouse, it would most likely be a middle tier performing mouse, because they are an own brand company that offers cheaper options. I began sketching with the goal of creating something that could fit the "gaming" aesthetic, as well as easily fitting into a work environment.

Brand Identity

I Identified what the Insignia packaging design looked like, and I recreated it and placed my product onto it to show what it would look like.

I took a picture in store and then used my skills in Procreate and Photoshop to put my product on their packaging, and then edit it in on the shelves, so people could see what it would look like in-store.
