THE CHALLENGE
Adhesive Stitch Application Device
_
For my senior capstone project I identified a problem with the application of adhesive stitch strips. Users improperly apply this stitches, and cause damage to their skin, which leads to further complications. Through constant set backs, problem solving, and design thinking, I was able to create an automated applicaiton device that eliminates further injuries when using adhesive stitch strips.

The Problem.
Zip stiches are great alternatives to suture stitches, however they come with one drawback, which is improper application. A common mistake is overtightening, which causes a painful, longer lasting injury.

What is MARSI?
MARSI (Medical Adhesive Related Skin Injury) is a type of injury that occurs from improper use of adhesive stitches.

Adhesive stitch strips are used for lacerations in emergency settings.
MARSI occurs in emergency settings.

Opportunity Space
Create a device that automates the tension. The device should only tighten a certain amount that isn't able to tear the skin and cause MARSI.

Ideation Setback
After sketching I learned the direction my product was leaning into was going to be too expensive, and the function wasn't clear, so I went back to the drawing board.

Another Setback
The intention was there this time, however there was an issue with the sliding arms requiring too much friction to work. So I began looking for another solution.
